The collection focuses on using traditional techniques in modern ways with bold colours and playful shapes to draw one’s attention. They employ unusual yarns and materials to craft their wares, like rubber, felt, and bungee cords, creating cosy, oversized stuffed knits and pairing them with wood bases for structure and durability.
In these pieces, she was inspired by the plant world and its landscape. Through the painstaking and meticulous work of embroidery and weaving, she tried to get closer to their rhythms and their constant transformation. This forced her to take a contemplative look at her surroundings.
The image is woven from geological, climatic and hydrological maps of the areas where the photograph was taken. The threads that make up the image are made of animal and vegetable fibres and dyed with natural dyes by communities close to the landscape that we see in the photo.
Nancy makes tapestries with a different approach. Instead of making it 2D, like most tapestries, she uses the weaving technique to make 3D artworks.
